New Hampshire!
There is nothing more nostalgia-inducing than a long bus-ride to New Hampshire during a snowstorm. A nor’easter plowed in as I was headed to White River Junction two days after Christmas, 18-wheelers off the road and everything. It took 10 hours, but I did get there after all. We spent a few days watching marathon-numbers of Freaks & Geeks episodes, Once, Crazy Love, cooked chili for the...

And so we ski!
We grew up cross-country skiing at Lapland Lake on trails like Honka Tie, Vasa (baby reindeer), Sisu (determination), and the old favorite Lake Trail. We went out the day after Christmas for the first time in years and it felt so good to be sore after a day of full-body exertion. We used to have this notion of “top 5” — conceptually “awesome” things that we considered...
Northampton Diner
Who wants 2 eggs, toast, bacon, and coffee for $3.25? As classic a diner as you’ll ever get, run by two women named Bonnie and Betty. (Northampton Diner, 1205 NY Rt 30, Northampton Township, 518-863-256)
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
So far we have baked cranberry-pistachio biscotti, rugelach, fleur de sel salt caramels, cherry-pecan mexican wedding cookies, and apricot cheesecake bars. Today we got a panettone for some special Christmas trifle. I’m fighting off a bit of a cough (hack hack) and sound like a 78-year old smoker, but aside, enjoying these lazy days before the holiday.
Funn-a
There once was a girl named Youngna She is surely a lotta funn-a. With a whimsical smile and a bob so in style, She snaps pics that are just bound to stun ya. - My co-worker, who wrote me a holiday limerick
Kate's Lazy Meadow
Kate Pierson, formerly of the B-52s runs Lazy Meadow, a series of vintage cabins nestled in the Catskills. Who wants to go? “Inside the cozy, rustic cabins, you’ll find mind-blowing mid-century modern/space age/rocket-your-socks-off decor….And oh…did I mention that Lazy Meadow is located on nine beautiful acres, and one big lazy meadow? Complete with stirring Catskill...

Crazy for Marrow
We had dinner at Stone Park Cafe last night and it was easily one of the best splurge meals I’ve had in New York. It’s well-designed, cozy, with good lighting and copious amounts of space between tables. The wine list is extensive and you can sit for 45 minutes at the bar with just a glass of cotes du rhone and nobody will pressure you to order. Start with the marrow—bone...

I'm in Love
So I think I found the perfect writing desk. Described as: “A 50’s architectural inspired French modern writing desk. Two drawers with crushed bamboo fronts in the bottom shelf and a hidden writing surfance built into the desktop. Antique brass hardware. Desktop features a crushed bamboo inlay to square off the writing surface and a gallery around the back of the desktop and 3/4 up the...

We Work Hard!
(No really, we do).
Julia Rothman
I can hardly take it. Julia Rothman just makes the best patterns.
Merry Christmas from DUMBO
I’m pretty sure that the best Christmas party of the year is always the one at St. Ann’s Warehouse catered by Rice. I mean really: vats full of roasted cauliflour and brussels sprouts? And roasted ham? And edamame hummus? and fresh cranberry sauce and curried chicken and hangar steak? They went over the top this year with chocolate fountains (white & milk) that made all the...
The Big Sleep
Organic cotton! I’ve become a bed snob. What color? My wall is clementine…so I’m leaning towards the yellow carnations. Your vote?
